I had tried every diet under the sun. I have Dysmetabolic Syndrome and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and no weight loss routine ever took off more than 20 pounds. I had already gone gluten free and experienced other health benefits, but not the weight loss I desperately needed. What goals did you achieve since adding fasting into your life?
My cholesterol and other labs have improved. My sleeping has improved and I have so much more energy.
When it comes to fasting, what are your top 3 recommendations?
1. Figure out what window works best for you. It’s not a one size fits all way of life. I personally like 19:5 or 20:4 with a couple of 23 hour fasts each week.
2. Trust the process. It takes time for your body to get in a good groove!
3. Use an app to track your fasts. It helps you stay on track.
What is your favorite healthy food to eat? What is the recipe? I am not much of a cook, but I love a good stir fry of chicken and steak, grilled veggies, and rice. It’s filling and a great meal if you are doing One Meal a Day!
How did you manage to integrate this healthy lifestyle into your life?
Honestly, I just jumped right in! I ordered Gin Stephens’ book on Kindle, and read it all in one night. I started fasting the next day at 16:8. Within a week, I was doing 18:6 and I’ve never missed a fasting day since. I’m at 692 consecutive fasts!
What motivates you to continue with this lifestyle?
It’s easy for me to do! Plus the weight I’ve lost has stayed off for over a year. What is your best piece of advice for those just starting to fast?
Just do it! Don’t be afraid to try. The key is a clean fast. Drink only plain water, black coffee, or plain tea while fasting. Then let the magic begin! Anything else you would like to share? The weight loss and health benefits with intermittent fasting are amazing and worth it. When I first started fasting in 2019, I never would have imagined how much this lifestyle would change me for the better.
